Hello, all. Hate to join a list this way, but I've broken everything and need some advice.
I inherited a dspace installation running on Debian Sarge. I've never really worked with any of this software before. After upgrading several other servers without problems, we ran a dist-upgrade on the dspace box to upgrade to Debian 4. Following the dist-upgrade, dspace will not run. I do not know what information is important or needed to diagnose what's wrong, so suggestions as to what to look at are appreciated. Symptoms: Attempting to access the site gets a "cannot connect to server." This is probably because tomcat4 will not run (duh). Attempt to start tomcat4 results in nothing -- no error messages that I can find, no console error, just a new prompt. Comparing backup file lists to the post-upgrade contents of /var/lib/tomcat4 shows massive changes to the files, e.g. /var/lib/tomcat4/webapps no longer contains a tomcat-docs/ subdirectory. I have valid copies of all the pre-upgrade files. The regular web site and a contentdm site housed on the same box came through just fine. I'm hoping either someone has experience with the upgrade from Sarge to Etch and can point me in the right direction. Any suggestions, however elementary or obvious they might seem, will be very much appreciated. I am truly in newbie space here. I can certainly provide more details, but I am not sure what is important and relevant. Thanks for your thoughts and counsel. Marc -- --------------------------------- Marc W.
