Hi,
Few sanity checks before you go ahead.

1) Check if you have copied proper jdbc drivers for postgreswl, I mean if
the drivers matches the version of ur installed database
2) You need to have dspace user created. Since your tomcat will run under
tomcat user, dspace runs under dspace user so tomcat user must somehow
access database for which edit pg_ident.conf  and add an entry as follows

MAPNAME  IDENT-USERNAME  PG-USERNAME
dspace        tomcat            dspace

3)see if your database is configured to listen at correct port ..
