Hello Bill,

the type evaluation in the statistics depends on the the settings in
[dspace]/config/dstat.cfg, these are the default ones:

# The item types in the archive that you need number breakdowns on
item.type=Thesis or Dissertation
item.type=Preprint
item.type=Research Paper

and the content of the metadata field dc.type filled via the
input-selection list <value-pairs value-pairs-name="common_types"
dc-term="type"> stored value.

Assuming that you use the default input-forms.xml and that people did
select something from the list, try and replace the item.types in the
dstat.cfg with

item.type=Animation
item.type=Article
item.type=Book
item.type=Book chapter
item.type=Dataset
item.type=Learning Object
item.type=Image
item.type=Image, 3-D
item.type=Map
item.type=Musical Score
item.type=Plan or blueprint
item.type=Preprint
item.type=Presentation
item.type=Recording, acoustical
item.type=Recording, musical
item.type=Recording, oral
item.type=Software
item.type=Technical Report
item.type=Thesis
item.type=Video
item.type=Working Paper
item.type=Other

This list corresponds to the default type list. If you use other type,
you got to adjust the list.

Then run ant init_configs and do the stats again.

Hope that helps

Claudia
