After search the mailing list archive more extensively I was able to find something that worked for me.
I simply deleted the temp file: lucene-df0aa24d655351869e985b7372bc1408-write.lock It seems that lucene must create this file in order to prevent concurrent indexing of the data. Since the indexing occurs whenever something new is created, this seemed to be the perfect solution. My only question now is, how did that file not get deleted in the first place?
