One way might be to write your own authentication method, making use of the stackable authentication system: http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/StackableAuthenticationMethods It could authenticate against whatever method you use, and if that fails, fall through to LDAP. > Anyone got an idea (or better yet come code) where I can start How are things progressing at Bangor with the rollout of Shibboleth? One nice side-effect of us all moving to Shibboleth is we have to run central single sign on systems. You could use the DSpace Shibboleth plugin ( https://mams.melcoe.mq.edu.au/zope/mams/pubs/Installation/dspace14) for DSpace, and the appropriate Shibboleth plugin for whatever web server your intranet is running on. That way, you can log into either first, or log into any other Shibbolized system you have (e.g. Blackboard) and then you'll have seamless login into all other Shibbolized sites.
