I'm still confident the separation you mention can be done in Manakin without resorting to this. The only piece I'm missing is joining up dc.contributor.author with dc.creator in the author display, and I'm even starting to work out how to do that. (Sorting in XSLT is a headache...) I'll keep the list updated on my progress. That isn't to say this isn't a good request. I'm not sure why dc.contributor.author was chosen over dc.creator in the first place -- but either way, the underlying code should be smart enough not to care about this decision.
