Hello Sofia,

We (Kristine Fallon Associates, Inc.) worked with the Department of
Architecture and Design at the Art Institute of Chicago to create an archive
for digital design data (such as CAD files, animations, presentations), called
"DAArch" (Digital Archive for Architecture System). We created a custom Web
interface and a programmer at the Art Institute created the "middleware" to use
DSpace as a storage repository for the bitstreams and to use "side tables" in
PostgreSQL for the metadata. DAArch uses about 150 fields from the CDWA. The
fields that match the Dublin Core are mapped into DSpace.

We just opened a demonstration site where you can see and use DAArch. The URL
is http://daarch.kfa-inc.com . DAArch was done as open source, so it is freely
available. You can download the software from SourceForge at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/daarch .

Regards,
Bob Feldman

Subject: [Dspace-tech] Metadata for artistic research results in open archives

Library & Learning Resources at University College of Borås has just started a
pilot study funded by the National Library of Sweden. The background is the
requirements of methods for publishing and accessibility of artistic research
and research results, which often wholly or partially, are visually expressed.

Part of the study will consist of a survey of existing initiatives in
developing metadata for visual artistic objects in open archives.
Focus
will be on the often complex contents of these objects - artistic expression,
form and colour, manufacturing process, use of different material etc.

If members of this list knows about initiatives of this kind we would be
grateful to take part of that information. We are primarily focusing on
research and research results but are also interested in other kind of
publications like project work and student work within the academic field of
art and design.

regards,
Sofia Arvidsson
