I think that was someone in the community suggesting they may try to
use Solr with DSpace because they were using it with a Wiki, but I
don't think that there are any architected plans in our current
roadmap that limit the use of Solr, but likewise, we have no specific
projects to replace Lucene with Solr. Many of the topics in the wiki
page come from brainstorming sessions and right now anyone in the
community can post an idea there. You are welcome to apply for a
project to explore that, the applications have picked up today and as
I said, we do have another week for you to prepare yours within

Not to derail those who have applications in this area, but I do know
that this is actually somewhat older concept and there have actually
been some other projects in the last year (and a GSoC 2007 project)
that explored the subject and created examples of this.

I would highly recommend working on a proposal and submitting it in
the GSoC project, its best to have such discussions there concerning
what are best approaches. I do recommend trying to put together a
detailed proposal rather than just posting a resume, we are as
interested in your creativity in coming up with a proposal as we are
in your experience base. So I'm not going to go further in
discussing how to implement such a project. The great thing is that
there is more time for you to work on such a proposal and/or make
additions via comments on an existing proposal.

Best of luck,
Mark
