Hello all, Is anyone here succesfully using Apache httpd/mod_jk as a frontend to Tomcat AND the <security constraint> directive in dspace-web.xml (to restrict the use of SSL to certain services only)? And would anyone like to share an example of how exactly this is set up? I have installed everything according to the ModJk instructions on the wiki, as well as mod_ssl for Apache, and it all works fine for any page accessed through port 80/8080. Tomcat is set up to redirect all calls from mod_jk to port 8080, as it should be, and these directions work. But it won't direct anything to 443/8443 (it just hangs when trying to access a protected page, alternatively I get a Page not found error).
It might be that the problem is in the Apache mod_ssl config (I am not an SSL expert), although https requests to Apache itself works fine. Or should you use some other method than the settings in dspace-web.xml to accomplish this (as in this case the SSL part should be handled by httpd, and not by Tomcat)? And, of course, I might be thinking in the wrong direction, about what is being redirected and where (I am no Tomcat expert either, which is the main reason why I would like to be able to do some things in httpd instead...). If anyone have any ideas, examples or just some hint on where to start looking, I know many of you use this set up, I would be very happy to know.
