After the deafening silence from my last question, I'll try and rephrase
it and break it down.
Firstly, perhaps I'm too ambitious but I'm more or less trying to do two
upgrades at once:
i) upgrade from PostGreSQL 7.4.19 to 8.1.11. I'm actually moving the
whole setup to a new machine - the old one has 7.4.19 and the new one
has 8.1.11, so it is not strictly a db "upgrade".
ii) upgrade from DSpace 1.4.1 to 1.5 (involving database updates)
Assistance with either would be very much appreciated. I tried dumping
the database from 7.4 into 8.1.11 and it all looked good apart from one
error:

it is even important. But all the data moved across ok.
Is there anything special I need to do to the data before attempting the
DSpace upgrade other than running the database_schema_14-15.sql script?
I did this and received the errors outlined in
exception-update-14-15.txt (attached), but I'm not sure about whether I
need to run update-sequences.sql? I tried doing this after running the
database_schema_14-15.sql script which caused the errors outlined in
exception-update-sequences.txt (attached).
The browsing index tables appear to be primarily affected (browsing by
author, title etc doesn't work after [dspace]/bin/index-init).
To begin with, if anyone could help with pointers for issue i), the PG
upgrade from 7.4.19 I think that would go a long way to sorting things
out. Also, I'm not sure of the proper order of running
database_schema_14-15.sql and update-sequences.sql. Also, I notice in
the database_schema_14-15.sql there is a line near the top of the file
which reads:
-- SQL commands to upgrade the database schema of a live DSpace 1.3 or
1.3.x
-- to the DSpace 1.4 database schema
I presume this is a cut-and-paste typo and the script is actually meant
to upgrade from 1.4.x to 1.5?
