It serves to provide a name for the browser to save the file as by appending it to the url for retrieving the bitstream. That column stays the same all the way through to 1.5.x ATM
in 1.5.x this was extended/reused in disposition headers for download if it is available so that browsers that properly use a disposition header for detecting a file downloads name would use it appropriately. Generally speaking it is gotten off the http post when the file is uploaded as the filename. You are correct that is bears no relation to where the file is stored in the file system. These values can be changed on the bitstreams without having to "move" anything in your assetstore. the only concern I would have is that in its absence, your uusers are goiing to be "hunting" for the files they download because the local file naming will be different than the label... -Mark On May 5, 2008, at 1:38 PM, Eric Muzzy wrote: > Sorry if this has been asked before. > I have a simple question about the name column in the bitstream table. > We're using 1.3.1 and migrating to a new server (but keeping 1.3.1 for > now) > Does this field have any value other than provenance information about > the source of the ingested bitstream. > The actual bitstreams are being stored in the assetstore and > referenced differently, so I'm not sure about the reason for the name > column? > In a test migration the lack of a physical file referenced in the name > column doesn't appear to have any consequence? > > Thanks > Eric > American Museum of Natural History > > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > --- > This SF.net email is sponsored by the 2008 JavaOne(SM) Conference > Don't miss this year's exciting event.
