Dear All,

 

The JISC Repositories Support Project is pleased to announce two
training days for those who are new (or nearly new) to working with
DSpace, as part of its continuing programme of repository support.

  

Each day is aimed at a different audience: the first of these days (2nd
June) will be aimed at new repository managers and support staff. The
second day (11th July) will be aimed at new technical staff supporting
the repository.

 

The events will be held  in a dedicated training facility at New
Horizons in Birmingham and are free of charge to those at English and
Welsh HEIs. Lunch will also provided for each of the days.

 

The first of these days (2nd June) aimed at new repository managers and
support staff and will cover the following areas:

 

1.    Day Overview 

2.    Introduction to DSpace

      - What it is.

      - Basic architectural overview.

3.    Configuration & Customisation (By the repository administrator)

      - Communities & Collections

      - Workflows & Metadata Implementation

      - Licenses

      - User Management

4.    Running DSpace as an Administrator

      - Submitting Items

      - Harvesting

      - Persistent Identifiers (The handle)

5.    Other Configuration & Customisation that you may require (By the
technical staff)

      - Multilingualism

      - RSS Feeds/Emails/Notifications/Subscriptions.

      - Submission Interfaces

      - Populating other resources using the repository.

      - Alternative deposit mechanisms (SWORD etc).

6.    Statistics

      - DSpace Stats

      - Google Analytics

 

The second of these days (11th July) will be aimed at new technical
staff supporting the repository covering the following areas: 

 

1.    Day Overview

2.    DSpace 1.5 Software Overview 

      - Architectural Overview

      - Structural Code Overview

3.    Installation 

      - Third party software installation

      - The DSpace configuration file

      - DSpace software installation

4.    Configuration 

      - Customising the submission process using input-forms.xml

      - RSS Feeds/Emails/Notifications/Subscriptions

      - Multilingualism

      - RSS Feeds

5.    Persistent Identifiers/The Handle Server 

6.    UI Customisation 

7.    Importing/Exporting from DSpace & Deposit Mechanisms 

8.    Implementing Statistics 

9.    Upgrading to DSpace 1.5 from DSpace 1.4 

 

The events are aimed at members of staff new in their roles as
repository administrators and technicians. The course is not suitable
for staff with more than a year of DSpace experience. Places are limited
