Dear Dspace Tech list,
We have run into a few instances where we have made changes to the file
names of some of our bitstreams. We want to ensure that if changing file
names changes the MD5 checksum of the bitstreams that the old and new
checksum results are recorded in the provenance metadata fields for that
bitstream's item. To that end, I ran the checksum checker on the communities
containing the files in question. After that, I ran a database query to
produce a report including item handle, bitstream name, submitted checksum,
current checksum, checksum checker result, and bitstream size. Assuming the
report was complete, we found that none of the checksum results had changed.
Can anyone confirm that changing the name of a bitstream does not affect the
MD5 checksum of that bitstream? Thank you.
