We are in the midst of upgrading from one server to another. Here are
the specifics of the software upgrade:

Java: 1.6.0 to 1.6.0.06

Postgres: 7.3.15 to 8.1.11 (RHEL 5)

Tomcat: 4.0 to 5.5.26

Jdbc: the one provided by dspace 1.4 to the matching one provided by our
Redhat distro (RHEL 5)

The thing that seems to be taking the most time is the access to the
database. From looking at the log files, when dspace 1.4 is running on
the new server, we see a whole bunch of pauses when accessing the
database. It's like dspace is catching its breath every once in a while
when accessing postgres.

I've tried all kinds of versions of the jdbc, and java and the new
server is still slower. Any ideas?

Now dspace 1.5 on the new server runs very quickly, but we are not ready
to release 1.5 yet and would like to bring dspace 1.4 up on the new
server and then upgrade to dspace 1.5 on the new server.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Jose
