Hang on, hang on - there's no "install configs" but there is:

ant init_configs

which should copy changes in config files from your source directory to
your install directory, right? 

Better to do that than in your installed [dspace.dir]/configs, right?

Correct, there is no longer any "install configs", you just edit the
log4j.properties directly in [dspace-source]/dspace/configs or in your
installed [dspace.dir]/configs
