Hi All,
I've modified the dspace.cfg so that both strengths.show = true and the
caching is on too.
##### Settings for content count/strength information ####
# whether to display collection and community strengths
# (This configuration is not used by XMLUI. To show strengths in the
# XMLUI, you just need to create a theme which displays them)
webui.strengths.show = true
I have also updated the DIM-Handler.xsl file with the update here:

I have also had a look at the mets description of a community / collect (or
item) using a url such as:
http://localhost:8080/xmlui/metadata/handle/123456789/1/mets.xml
It doesn't appear that the number is in the mets description at all. Any
further thoughts or ideas much appreciated.
