Hi Karen and Francois, this is true the performance might suffer. If you update to the latest release you'll be able to change from real time counting to batch see [dspace-source]/dspace/config/dspace.cfg
# Counts fetched in real time will perform an actual count of the # database contents every time a page with this feature is requested, # which will not scale. If the below setting is to use the cache, you # must run the following command periodically to update the count: # # [dspace]/bin/dsrun org.dspace.browse.ItemCounter # # The default is to count in real time # webui.strengths.cache = false As there has been numerous enhancements/improvements/new features/bug fixes you should consider updating your instance anyway. Hope that helps Claudia Jürgen François Parmentier schrieb: > Just my two cents: there is a risk, if you have a big collection > (let's say 300000 items), that the whole memory is taken during the > counting (at least in DSpace 1.4). > > 2009/5/29 Claudia Jürgen <[email protected]>: >> Hello Karen, >> >> there is an option for the amount (not size) of items in >> [dspace-source]/config/dspace.cfg >> >> # whether to display collection and community strengths >> webui.strengths.show = false >> >> Change this to true and the amount of items in a collection/community >> will be displayed, for an example see https://eldorado.tu-dortmund.de/ >> >> >> Hope that helps >> >> Claudia Jürgen >> >> >> >> Savage, Karen R. schrieb: >>> Is it possible to calculate the size of individual collections and >>> communities within Dspace (including their items in the assetstore)? >>> >>> Running Dspace 1.3.2 >>> >>> -- >>> Karen S >>> >>> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ >>> Register Now for Creativity and Technology (CaT), June 3rd, NYC.
