Sorry; this was my hack originally and I should have picked up on this problem sooner.
You don't actually want to edit the main sitemap.xmap file; you want the sitemap.xmap file inside your theme folder. I've fixed the entry on the wiki. (I think there was a change in the sitemap.xmap setup somewhere 'round about 1.5; I originally based the hack on 1.4 + Manakin.)
