Ruby,

Given your using JSPUI I would alter the following ItemTag class to take the
Bitstreams and order them according to your requirements.

https://scm.dspace.org/svn/repo/dspace/tags/dspace-1_4_2/dspace/src/org/dspace/app/webui/jsptag/ItemTag.java

   /**
     * List bitstreams in the item
     */
    private void listBitstreams() throws IOException

Which will require you to recompile your dspace. I would copy the file from
the appropriate version/tag to your dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/java/....
directory and alter its behavior there.

If you were using XMLUI, you could override this ordering in your XSLT theme
and not need to alter java code.

If your upgrading from 1.4.2 to 1.5.2 you do not need to upgrade to 1.5.0
then 1.5.1 then 1.5.2, just make sure you run the appropriate "
database_schema_14-15.sql<https://scm.dspace.org/svn/repo/dspace/trunk/dspace/etc/postgres/database_schema_14-15.sql>"
to upgrade on the database.

I would recommend that if you are making this transition, it would be better
to switch to 1.5.2 in either the JSPUI or XMLUI case prior to doing your
customizations as the customization/overlay process is different.

Cheers,
Mark
