The answer depends on what we mean by "steps". You can install 1.6.2 in place of 1.5.2 without first installing 1.6.0 and then 1.6.1. But you do have to carry out the upgrade instructions (Upgrading a DSpace Installation), in order, for each version between the one you start with and the one you end at. For example, there should be an SQL script for altering the database schema and converting the data to match, in the upgrade instructions for 1.5.2 to 1.6.0, which cannot be skipped. -- Mark H.
