We just upgraded 1.4.2 to 1.6.2, by building a new server.  

We imported and ran the db updates.  You have to watch for any errors
and make sure you take care of them.  (Seems like they had to do with
indexes not being named exactly as the script predicts.)  

The assetstore is a simple copy; the structure hasn't changed.

We built the handle server fresh on the new machine, then updated the
config.dct file with the necessary parameters.  It worked fine afterward
without contacting CNRI.  If you go this route, though, it's important
that the name/IP of your server remain the same.  Otherwise, you'll have
to send CNRI your updated files.
