Are there any recommendations or "heads up" with regards to the limit
specified?

I'll agree that 20 is a low, but safe default thats not going to cause data
integrity or performance issues.

My question is, what happens when you do a batch edit of 1000 or 10,000
items? Would the issue in doing that lie in performance as the server has to
handle a large/long request, or that you'll run out of memory?

We routinely do changes of about 600 or so items, and have no problems to
report.
