Hi Gary,

are you building from the default release or from the source release ? (see
3.3.1 install options for the differences here
http://www.dspace.org/1_6_2Documentation/ch03.html )

Building from the default release ensures that you only build the things you
changed, as modules you don't change/use will only be downloaded once from
the maven repository, and don't require to be compiled locally.

When you do have a need to build from source, you can avoid building unused
modules over and over again, by deleting these modules from (all of) your
POM xml files.
