The issue is not one of the download being completed. Rather, it is one of the
continuation that occurs with above threshold files and how that works when
authorization is through Shib Auth.

After the user is prompted to login and that is done through Shibboleth. The
idp response that passes on the continuation url to the shib sp does so via
javascript, e.g. the user's browser is involved in this communication. Since
the idp redirect url initiates the download as an attachment, the browser
window itself continues to display the idp url page, in this case, just a white
screen. I have no control over that and it is to be expected. I am curious as
to whether others have experienced this and what they did to sidestep it. My
suspicion is that I will have to put in an intermediate page which will pass on
the continuation. I would like to find out what other users of the shib auth
have done in the case of the downloaded continuations (above threshold
bitstreams).

Please see below for a description of the scenario.

Hello,

I have been testing Shibboleth for use with our DSpace instance.

Does anyone have protected bitstreams on their shib protected site, which are
of a size that is above the threshold as set in the dspace.cfg file? If so,
what is the behavior in the case of a download redirected through the shib
authentication?

The scenario below specifically describes the question:
An item with one or more above threshold bitstreams where the authorization is
set at the bitstream level to require authentication. When the unauthenticated
user clicks on the above threshold bitstream, a redirect and a message takes
the user to the login page where Shibboleth login is selected.

What behavior should occur in the browser after the login? If it is a bitstream
that is below the threshold, the bitstream will display in the browser window,
but since the scenario above describes an above threshold file, the bitstream
is downloaded as an attachment. What happens in the browser window in that case?

Thank you in advance and looking forward to your response,

..\Wendy
