This is the expected behaviour. You're seeing the 'Browsing by Author "XYZ"', so the jump bar takes you back to the index of authors. But if you notice the items on this page, they are sorted alphabetically by title. If you want to see the title index, select "Titles" on the homepage and you'll see "Browsing by Title" heading, where the jump bar takes you to the index of titles.
