Replying to myself I have just found the cause (i think it is bug)
It happens when general search and community list is removed from the
center of front page. For that, as shown in some posts you have to
comment the following in
dspace-1.6.1-src-release/dspace-xmlui/dspace-xmlui-api/src/main/resources/aspects/ArtifactBrowser/sitemap.xmap

<map:transform type="FrontPageSearch"/>
<map:transform type="CommunityBrowser">

After that the home page of your dspace installation shows only the
welcome content contained on news-xmlui.xml. But in this version (1.6.1)
seems to have other undesired side effects (Dspace thinks it is on
"Home->statistics" when it is "Home". Activating this block again points
correctly to "Home") Any idea or workaround to find some fix for it?
