I saw a comment a few messages back asking about the same issue, so let me add my comments & support:
When we create custom themes for a subcommunity or collection, there are two things we find very cumbersome to do and I would like to suggest that the following two things be configurable within a theme somehow. First, I would like the option to turn off display of the "Browse Entire Repository" option. Given the eclectic nature of our collections, it's just not useful. But the browse this collection or subcommunity can be very helpful. Second, I would like to specify which browse indexes to display in the theme: For example SHOW webui.browse.index.1 HIDE webui.browse.index.2 SHOW webui.browse.index.3 SHOW webui.browse.index.4 That way if it's not useful to display the author browse in a collection, I can have it removed from the list. Alternatively, if I have added an index that is specific to a particular collection I can display it selectively. I would also be nice to specify the label to be used at the same time. For example, I may want to use the word the word "Instructor" rather than "Author". It's not that hard to change this in the theme.xsl, but it seems like it could be simplified. SHOW webui.browse.index.# LABEL: "Instructor" I like the distributed subcommunity administration feature that was added to 1.6.x. We have at least one department who has really begun to use dspace creatively and is, quite frankly, discovering some issues. It seems to me as though our DSpace instance will really evolve into a variety of disparate subcommunities which share a common repository function. Our uses will appreciate the unity that the DSpace provides, but they will be really focused on their own stuff. They see it not as a community of subcommunities but as a system that manages repositories, one of which is theirs.
