I am using DSpace 1.6.2 with the JSPUI interface. I am trying to get DSpace to
display an icon in the browse listing for any item has one or more files
attached, so that the visitor instantly knows which items include files. I have
tried to follow the instructions in the manual regarding settings for
thumbnails, media filters, item preview and browse settings. However, I've not
been able to get the results I want.

In my testing, I have been able to get DSpace to display a small thumbnail in a
"Preview" column in the browse when the attached file is a graphic such as a
JPEG or GIF. However, this is not the behaviour I am looking for. Also, I have
not been able to get it to display anything when the file is another type such
as a PDF or Word file.

Ideally, what I would like to get is this:

(a) An icon is displayed in the browse listing for items that have a single
file
attached. The icon should give some indication of the type of file (e.g. PDF,
graphic, audio, video, etc.). However, I don't need to have a different icon
for
each bitstream format. Also, I don't need to have a "thumbnail" of the file -
just an icon indicating the type.

(b) In cases where there are multiple files attached, I want an icon displayed
indicating there are multiple files. The same icon for any multiple file
combination would be satisfactory.

If the above is not possible, I would settle for the same icon being displayed
in the browse listing for any item that has one or more files attached.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and if so suggest how it may be
accomplished?

Regards
Stephen
