Subject: Re: [Dspace-tech] Improve dspace search

Hi Lewatle

The proposed modification is a several step process .
1. Have the metadata included in your metadata schema, for example dc.school
 or whatever qualifier you use.....
2. locate in dspace.cfg the section of "configurable browse indexes", and
add a new browse index at the bottom of the section as...
webui.browse.index.(5) = School:metadata:dc.school.*:text (refer to the
Dspace manual, for a complete explanation of each term, and take care with the
numbering of indexes)
3. run index-init (there are diverse ways to invoque a new index
building, regarding the version, use the appropiate one)
4, at this point, if you restart Dspace, a new index (and of course the
possibility to search....) will appear below existing search options (title,
author...) in the standard search boxes
5 probably you will find some very long labes as
xmlui.ArtifactBrowser.ConfigurableBrowse.title.metadata.school.... and these
kind of "untranslated" labels. You will need to update the messages_xx. xml
to include the new labels.

In a xmlui installation is aproximately as described, except the needed
start&stops and dont forget some tomcat cache cleaning

Hope that helps. If you need more precise instructions, dont doubt contact me

Hi All

I want to add metadata fields to allow our search to retrieve information from
the following 3 fields School, Faculty and Degree name.

For example when student type computer science it should pick all the theses
loaded under the school of computer science etc.

Regards,

Lewatle
