Hi,

I’ve wondered about this before and now I’m trying to save some time while
working on upgrading our DSpace 1.5.1 application to version 1.7.x. I’ve never
been absolutely sure when I have to execute either or both of these steps
(after the intial installation of course):

1. mvn package

2. ant -Dconfig={dspace-installation}/config/dspace.cfg update

Here are the situations in which I need to know which step(s) above are
necessary in order to see my changes reflected on my site:

1. I modify an object in {dspace-source}/dspace/modules/…../…/…
2. I modify a Java program in one of the {dspace-source}/dspace-xxxxxxx
applications
3. I modify {dspace-installation}/config/dspace.cfg (I think here I only
have to restart my web server…?)

I’ve also commented out the applications I’m not currently implementing in the
pom.xml files and in build.xml in order to save time.

Thanks in advance,

Sue
