AFAICT you did everything correctly. The numbers may stop updating
because Cocoon can serve you the whole page from  cache.

You should try to clean the Cocoon cache:

1.)     First, don't forget to shutdown Tomcat.
2.)     cd ${tomcat6.home}/work/Catalina/{appropriate.domain.dir}/_/
3.)     rm -rf cache-dir
4.)     Start Tomcat again.
