Amit,

That approach should be fine.  I cannot think of any big drawback to 
creating a web interface that just calls the dspace import script 
underneath.  You'd obviously just want to be sure to call the dspace 
import script with the currently logged in user's information (otherwise 
all items will look as though they were imported by a single user).

Beyond that, this seems like a reasonable approach.
