No, I just described what I consider a simpler way. You should be able to use both Simple Archive Format and AIP to achieve the same goal. Did you try the --migrate flag of the the Simple Archive Format exporter? In AIP what you want can be done using the force replace mode: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC18/AIP+Backup+and+Restore#AIPBackupandRestore-ForceReplaceMode Again, don't underestimate proper backups regardless of which of the three methods you decide to use.
