Hello,

we have to update our java version in our DSpace installation to Java 7. Is
DSpace manual warning (below) still valid?
I couldn't get anywhere following these links and I couldn't find that bug with
google either. Our Dspace version is 1.8. Also is that bug an annoyance
(crashes seldom) or really bad?

"4.2.2 Oracle Java JDK 6 (standard SDK is fine, you don't need J2EE) DSpace
requires Oracle Java 6 (standard SDK is fine, you don't need J2EE). Please
note, at this time, DSpace does not function properly with Java JDK 7 (see
warning below).
Oracle's Java can be downloaded from the following location:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html. Again, you
can just download the Java
SE JDK version.
Java 7 is currently unsupported
DSpace does not currently support Java 7, as there is a known issue with Java 7
and Lucene/SOLR
(which DSpace uses for search & browse functionality). For more details, see
this article on the
Apache site: "WARNING: Index corruption and crashes in Apache Lucene Core /
Apache Solr with
Java 7" as well as this Java bug report: 7073868"
