Hi I would talk to the LDAP admins and try to make this happen in the tree.
ou=Staff, dc=uvic,dc =es (staff) ou=Students, dc=uvic,dc=es (students) ou=Visitors, dc=uvic,dc =es (visitors) Then you could specifiy an LDAP filter on "ou". It is difficult to filter on "cn". This also eliminates duplication of info in the LDAP DB's. For example what happens when a student becomes a staff member? Another LDAP record needs to be created with dup info, not very elegant.
