Hi Stefanie, I'm sorry about that, it's a known bug. I'll try to make a fix later this week. For now, you can use the LDAPAuthentication or LDAPHierarchicalAuthentication class from DSpace 1.8 (along with authentication-ldap.cfg from 1.8).
