Yes, using Tomcat 7 you have to add the follow parameter to the JAVA_OPTS: -Dorg.apache.el.parser.SKIP_IDENTIFIER_CHECK=true At http://cineca.github.io/dspace-cris/installation-stepbystep.html we report this configuration for Tomcat 7 but perhaps is better point out it and create a isolate paragraph with this options that depend to the underlying used tool.
