Good luck, I haven't tried that. Just for the record, nobody is against any
particular DB vendor (many of us likely grew up with mysql), its just that
it would take work to properly support another DB provider. Also, I don't
think that Postgres is a pain-point for anyone, its easy to use, and
performs well. OracleDB, however, is just a pain to get started with. To
support Multiple DB vendors it would be worth putting our chips into a data
provider tool that manages all the dialects for us. Currently to support
yet-another-DB-provider involves writing/duplicating too many Java classes.
I'm thinking something like JooQ or Kevin VDV's DSpace-Hibernate project
would be a good route to get there. They basically give you a Domain
Specific Language (DSL), that lets you write the dialect-agnostic query,
and then at runtime or something, the tool compiles/interprets the DSL to
make it work for each DB provider.
