Hi Jacob, While I've never run benchmarks specific to DSpace, these days, as you've noted, there should be no significant difference in performance between OpenJDK 7 and Oracle JDK 7. In fact, from my understanding, these days there's no significant differences between the two. See this StackOverflow answer for more details:

For what it's worth, we use OpenJDK 7 for the DSpaceDirect hosting service (http://dspacedirect.org/) and have not noticed any performance issues as of yet.
