Also keep in mind that if you ever need to use update-sequences.sql and the most recently assigned item(s) are deleted, by removing those NULL entries you would cause the sequence to reassign the same identifiers the deleted items had to any new item(s) you submit next, thus again defeating the purpose of a persistent ID.
