The field should be fine (At least thats the field I can see in Solr search core). Maybe the problem is that you didn't define it in every place where it is needed. I think it has to be a search filter in addition to a facet in order to work. And maybe it has to be part of the hompageConfiguration and the defaultConfiguration. But I am not sure about that.
