from james.apache.org:

What is James?

The Apache JAMES Project delivers a rich set of open source solutions, written in Java, related to internet mail and news.

JAMES is organized into subprojects with JAMES Server and the Mailet API as their core.

Apache JAMES is a project of The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) which encourages a collaborative, consensus-based development process under an open software license.

dspam is not written in java and does not have "JAMES Server and the Mailet API" as it's core, and I wouldn't think this would be a desirable direction for most of us, as dspam is run in many and varied configurations. Introducing a java requirement, though I don't think that's very likely to happen, would suck =) Perhaps you are thinking of the web quarantine interface? Many of the large scale dspam installs do not even use this part of the dspam software. I hope you are not seriously suggesting that the mail processing should be re-implemented in java...

Trac/subversion whould be a good start, but i whould prefer to see dspam as apache project. I don't know if there is any intrested because this whould need to switch the license to ASL2 ..

But if there are any could help to guide you through the "incubation", because im allready a PMC member of JAMES (james.apache.org) and have some experience with Apache stuff.

So if you intressted just raise your voice :-P

Great news, Jonathan!

How about putting DSPAM under Trac/Subversion so it's easier to add tickets, track revisions, etc.?

Greetings,

I know it's been a long time since the last DSPAM release, and I've decided - after much testing over the past year - that it was good and appropriate to release the changes in CVS. Because the configuration has changed to some degree, and new features have been added, I thought it best to call this release 3.8.0 instead of 3.6.9, as I had been originally planning. Don't be fooled, though - it's very similar to 3.6, but has been optimized significantly and some important bugfixes have been made. It also sports some new features such as Bill Yerazunis' Orthogonal Sparse Bigram <OSB> tokenizer. There are some very positive things happening with the project, and I'll be making an announcement soon that I think will answer a lot of questions and help the project move forward again out of the small slump it's been in. Until all ducks are in a row, though, I'm going to release 3.8.0 as an unofficial release. You can download it here:

MD5 (dspam-3.8.0.tar.gz) = 056b8c8b3ad9415a52c01b22ff1e64cf

Or grab it from cvs.zdziarski.com (I haven't yet committed every last detail into the production CVS).

 Jonathan

Cheers!
