Yes I used to get this all the time on an old installation (3.8.0 with 
apache2).  I was never sure it was a general dspam issue as the web-ui 
was screwed about with in an attempt to get 'extra bits' working. 
I since changed to 3.9.0 and setup web-ui with nginx (on FreeBSD).  It 
was very tricky for me to setup, but I think on something like Gentoo it 
would be easier.

web-ui has been solid since the upgrade.

As Michael posted, pls send us output of

dspam --version

and tell us a bit more about setup.  Which distro, which apache etc was 
dspam from source or by package? etc etc etc
