I just checked with the clamav folks on IRC. Clamav is running fine, I should have used clamdscan instead of clamscan. clamscan must load the database before it can run the scan, clamdscan talks to the daemon which has already loaded the database and is running very fast. Also the log shows clamav detected the virus and tells it to dspam. Then dspam dies...
