I would gladly help fund the process of making DSPAM's learning work out of the box (as part of DSPAM's source and not some high level script or expert designed web UI that only a few of us can afford).

You would help me and other if you could qualify and quantify the problem with learning out of the box.

Like they say "perfection is achieved, not when there's nothing left to add, but when there's nothing left to take away".

This viewpoint is not new to me. The question is what is perfection?

DSPAM admin 1 thinks that perfection is if DSPAM work better than SpamAssassin and does not require him to do much user management or training and is idiot proof to install and does not need any configuration at all.

DSPAM admin 2 thinks that perfection is if DSPAM allows him to change and tune every aspect of the product. Integrate DSPAM with Exchange and Lotus Domino and with Exim and with Postfix and users can train directly within the IMAP/POP server and all of this is tunable and configurable.

DSPAM user 1 thinks that perfection is if DSPAM is just there and magically knows what Spam is and what Ham is and never ever makes an error. And DSPAM should know that ever message written in German is considered by DSPAM user 1 as Spam because Germans are idiots and their language is pointless.

DSPAM user 2 thinks that perfection is if DSPAM is there but can be turned off because DSPAM user 2 thinks that no software can be more intelligent than him. So any filter is considered as pointless by DSPAM user 2.

etc, etc, etc....

I can go on here in the mailing list and ask what perfection is and I will get from almost everyone another response. Well... I could now go on and play the dictator and force some changes on everyone but why? Why should I enforce my viewpoint on everyone? We are here all together to move this product. You, the others and me. We all pull this product. Some of us pull the thing in one direction, while other push the product in a complete other way. And guess what? We all are doing the right and on the same time the wrong thing. None of us is right or wrong.

Time will tell what changes will stay and what changes will be reverted back or replaced.

So feel free to change the code. Submit patches. Add modules. Remove modules. Be my guest. No! Be our guest. You can do with DSPAM whatever you like. It is OPEN SOURCE. Every one can participate. This is how it works here.

Thank you!

Mikkel

Why can't DSPAM make it easier for people by making the whole
    learning thing work by default?

Learning and artificial intelligence is not an easy topic.
Anyway.... what does not work by default in regards to learning in
    DSPAM?

Instead of having to read pages up and pages down of tutorials
and write huge scripts or use poorly designed web apps?

This is because everyone and his dog are complaining about how bad
things are but when it comes to actual work then complaining and
words and and and and don't change code. Work. Real coding and
writing and taking time to fix and enhance and change code and web
apps and and and is what is needed.

Words are easy said and easy written in a message. This is usually
how it starts. With words and complains or the need to make
something better or fix an issue. But it ends very quickly when it
comes down doing real work. There the words stop to have an
effect. Other qualities are needed. And very often it stops there.
People don't work for DSPAM. Not them. They point with fingers
towards others say 'I can not code but this guy over there he is
able to code. He should do it. I can not do it.'
