I'me very much new to dspam, and have a semi-working setup using packages installed from Ubuntu repositories (dspam 3.6.8) with postfix (also installed from repos).

I'm having a number of problems with dspam dying, but before I pester this list for help I think (correct me if I'm wrong?) that I should start by getting my installation up to 3.8.0. That means a source installation, which I'm fairly comfortable with, but I really need to get the configure right so that as far as possible my new dspam binaries are drop-in replacements for the old ones.

I've found the HowTo in the wiki which relates to Debian (so in the right area) but exim biased.

Foolishly I've come to rely on dspam (ie I thought everything was working so migrated a couple of domains across to use the new server, taking around 3000 mails per day). So I need to try to get this right on first attempt to avoid making myself bigger problems.

Ideally I'd like to do the compilation on a different PC and copy the binaries across. So far I have:
   ./configure --disable-bias \
            --enable-virtual-users \
            --with-storage-driver=mysql_drv \
            --with-mysql-includes=/usr/include/mysql \
            --enable-debug \
            --with-dspam-home-owner=dspam \
            --with-dspam-group=dspam \
            --enable-experimental

.. from the wiki (I removed --with-delivery-agent and --with-quarantine-agent as they refer to exim), and tried make and checkinstall -D to build a .deb file. That gave me the error "Copying files to the temporary directory... FAILED" but did create me a 7.5MB .deb file. How well I can trust that, and whether the binaries would be drop-in replacements for the Ubuntu binaries I have no idea.

On the plus side, I am getting around 1500 emails processed in 10 minutes when things work, which makes this easily worth pursuing for me.
