Fedora Core 6 (yes, I know Fedora's up to 8... it came with the server)

There are reasons to sticking to FC6, to which a few thousand I adhere.

Plesk v8.2.1

Dunno what that is, don't care.

MySQL v5.0.27-1.fc6
Qmail v1.03-fc6.build82070918.10

I'm not a qmail person and have never been one. A few years ago I was an Exim person and left it for Postfix, have been a Postfix person ever since (for me it works better than Exim). I would never consider qmail (for many reasons).

If you are not amenable to considering Postfix, stop reading now.

*STOP*

Strange that you got gmail, the standard FC6 MTA is Sendmail 8.14.

Courier IMAP/POP3 v3.0.8-fc6.build82070918.10

Was that really FC6? I keep up with most of Sam's source -> rpm, my present version is 4.2.0.

There's also something installed called 'qmail-rblsmtpd,' v0.70-fc6.build82070918.10

Yuk.

My main questions are, given my setup:

   1. What compilation options do I want to build it with?

If you were to adopt Postfix (preferably 2.4.6, though from 2.3 is possible) I could help you with an LFH, LSB-compatible rpm.

   2. What directory do I want to install it to? (Elementary for you
      guys, I know)

On FC6 you *need* to adhere to LSB and LFH (Google for LFH and Linux). LFH is aka Linux File system Hierarchy. My rpm adheres to this.

   3. What's the easiest way to set up the MySQL database? I have access
      to phpMySQLAdmin.

Read the dspam docs. My rpm has a full set of Jonathan's original stuff. *phpMySQLAdmin* is useless for this, you need to read, learn and do. Later you may use phpMySQLAdmin, but you will only use it once in an almost dirty, dark-grey blue moon.

   4. Do I neeed a separate MySQL database for each domain (with one
      installation of DSpam, I'm guessing?)?

No.

   5. Where can I read about setting up the web admin component, once I
have the main application running? (sorry again for the elementary
questions). Again, do I have to set up a web admin, one for each
      domain?

In the included docs.

Windows people who go over to sysadmin Unix/Linux are not used to reading docs, they point and click - and hope for the best. In Unix/Linux *reading the docs* and thinking and acting on one's original thoughts is paramount. Though it helps (1,000 times over) to help people to talk to.

My knowledge does not include the web admin interface (though my rpm includes it), since dspam is flexible enough not to have to need it, if there are other alternatives [1].

My 1150+ users are so *utterly stupid* that adding an extra necessity to their Squirrel Mail/Thunderbird/Firefox interface would necessitate the intelligence of an insect, which is unobtainable for e-mailers here. So I provide a drag-'n cron-script/Courier maildrop script alternative (Squirremail "move"), with all kinds of reminders. Even then most of them couldn't care less and don't do anything.

I think that's about it. Thank you in advance for your help!
