I think the key is affordability. FM repeaters didn't really "catch on" to a
great extent until the major manufactuers (sp?) came out with affordable units
with cool features. While the current crop of D-STAR radios have the cool
features (like my Icom IC-2820 with the GPS option), the price is way too high
- especially in this weak economy
