I'm a newbie with the Icom rig, but I've run a Kenwood TM-D700 for mobile APRS off an on over the years. It might be nice to enable the same transmit functions on the IC-2820 even if I'd be unable to see other stations as I was able to do with the TM-D700. Also, I have a couple of questions which might not be absolutely appropriate for this forum. Here goes, nevertheless; if no one has a bright idea I'll try listing them on the APRS forum: * Regarding the the UT-123 "antenna unit". Has anyone played with trying to connect its output to another rig? I would love to hook it up as an outboard GPS to my TM-D700 because ever since my Radio Shack "Digi-Traveler" died I don't have a small, simple GPS unit to use with that rig. The external portion of the UT-133 is tiny, and if it's a self-contained GPS unit that would be quite a lovely replacement. Perhaps much of the GPS circuitry is on the internal PBC; if so, this idea is moot. * I have a tiny Garmin X10 Bluetooth GPS which works perfectly with my laptop and even my BlackBerry but I haven't been able to find anything ready-made to connect to my TM-D700 to allow it to connect with the Bluetooth. Has anyone had success trying to do this? It seems like we in amateur radio are the last to see Bluetooth incorporated into our equipment. This seems a pity! Clunky coil-cords seem ridiculous; Bluetooth can be configured to carry voice and/or data. Why are we still using cables? * Finally, how to I tell my IC-2820 to report my position over D-STAR? * Must I use GPS or GPS-A? * Can someone suggest the proper UPROTO path for APRS (GPS-A?) these days?
