Hi Steve,
Go to www.dstarinfo.com and select the link for
DSTAR CALCULATOR. THIS WILL ANSWER 89 percent of
the questions you just asked.

As for the reflector, no.
you have to be a registered user of your local
gateway, that way you can issue the linking command
for Dplus to link some port on some gateway to some
reflector port.

Multicasting and PORT TO PORT won't make the loop.

Again, referring to www.dstarinfo.com with the
callsign calculator, this will help you out
MOSTLY. the other 11 percent is luck and patience.

Good Luck

Subject: {Disarmed} [DSTAR_DIGITAL] Re: New to D-STAR in SF Bay Area:

I did want to mention that I made my first contact locally on the
repeater 2 days ago. Other than that QSO I haven't been able to talk to
anyone. I am pretty sure that I am making it to the repeater fine.
I can see my call on the list. Now if I wanted to connect to say a
reflector would I format the call /REF001^^C in the R2 field?
If I want to call a station in another state do I need the / before the
call? I still am not clear in how the format goes. I need to catch up to
another HAM here locally. I hope to do that fairly soon.

Again thanks for all your help! 73's Steve KJ6N
